Dear sailor,

Authorities have closed Grand Holm Marina operations and the port will not be opened for the season of 2008. Official excuse for closing the marina was formulated as if Grand Holm Marina blocks the access to border and customs control. This is not true and, as a matter of fact, there is and never has been any of border control facilities southwards to the marina. Incidentally, there is no need for border and customs formalities any longer anyhow, since Estonia has joined the Schengen Facility.

The real reason for closing the marina was probably the fact, that after four seasons of functioning Grand Holm Marina became so popular, that the new owner of the neighbouring real-estate, Mr Arvo Oorn, wants to open a new marina of his own. It is highly probable, that, being well-connected to the authorities, that are responsible for the closing of Grand Holm marina, he has impinged his son-in-law, Mr. Eero Pärgmäe, who occurs to be a high official (deputy counciller)at the Ministry of Economy and Communications. Mr. Pärgmäe happens to be an indirect boss of the daughter of the Major of Haapsalu, Mrs. Ingrid Danilov. There are lot of political interests involved too.

Even though, that it would be really difficult to fight with such frankpledge, the owners of Grand Holm Marina reserve the right to protect their rights and interests, especially because of all the plans and investments, that have been performed so far in the marina, were confirmed by Haapsalu city government and other authorities in advance.

There are currently no other officially opened piers or ports for the visitors in Haapsalu. We are sorry for all the inconveniences caused, but we cannot accept and accomondate Your yacht this summer. Our other services are not available either.
